Start Selling on Instagram — Here's How!

Instagram belongs to the list of the most popular social networks in the world. In the Philippines, Instagram is the third most used social media platform by internet users each month just behind Facebook and Facebook Messenger. Its popularity makes it an ideal space to start selling products online.

It’s a good thing ChatGenie has the tools to make your IG store a reality in just a few clicks! To learn the setup process and what you’ll need, check out the rest of this article.

Completing the Initial Requirements

Before you can set up your ChatGenie-powered IG store, you’re going to need a few things. A Facebook page and an Instagram Professional Account for your business are absolute must-haves. Bear in mind that the Facebook page you’ll be using must be connected to an existing Facebook Messenger store as the settings here will be carried over to the online store under your Instagram Professional account.

Once you have both accounts ready, you need to link them together and allow all privacy permissions.

These initial steps may take a little bit of time but no need to worry! You’re guaranteed to complete the setup process by following this guide we prepared.

Launching the IG Store

With the initial requirements taken care of, you can now proceed to launching your very own ChatGenie-powered IG Store. Note that the only way for you to build your Instagram store is if you already subscribed to our Starter Plan.

Now let’s get down to business! Start by going to the ChatGenie CMS Login Page here and choose the Sign in With Facebook option. Click Continue as <<Facebook Name>>. You’ll need to make configurations along the way but no need to sweat! It’s not exactly rocket science.

Once logged in, go to the Overview section of the ChatGenie Dashboard and then click the Activate button for Instagram. Upon activating Instagram, you’ll have to compose a Welcome Message to greet your customers with. This message automatically pops up once customers hit Get Started in your DM’s.

The Welcome Message must not exceed 255 characters. Text may include relevant store details like ordering schedule and bestsellers.

Once you’re satisfied with the welcome message you created, hit Subscribe. Congratulations! Your existing online store on Facebook Messenger is now live on the Instagram sales channel!

Customizing Trigger Buttons

The IG store works similarly to your Facebook Messenger store save for a few features. ChatGenie recognizes that with your IG store now up and running, customers will come knocking. They’d probably want to ask questions about your product catalog, check their carts, and look at their order history. That’s why we made it possible for merchants to bring up the Menu, Cart, and Order History fields in their message threads on command through the use of keywords.

The buttons for these fields disappear after a while if a customer is disengaged so the keywords come in handy if you want them to re-appear and rope your customer back into the shopping experience.

The Menu, Cart and Order History fields appear right after the Welcome Message. If the customer does not make a choice immediately, the buttons disappear.

Each field already has preset keywords but you are free to change them as you see fit. Make sure to assign short keywords that make sense so you can remember them easily.

To set your own keywords, go to General Store Manager > Sales Channel Settings > Instagram.

The General Store Manager can be found on the left handside of the ChatGenie Dashboard.

Note: Keywords are not case sensitive. They should, however, be separated by a comma.

The default keywords are:

Menu: order here

Cart: your cart

Order History: your orders

Do remember that the button for these fields will still be triggered even if you send a whole sentence to the customer as long as it contains the activating keyword that you settled with.

Say you assigned the word catalog as the keyword for Menu and you sent this message: Thanks for your interest. You can check out our catalog here.

The Menu Message Template will be automatically triggered in this scenario since your message included the word catalog in it. It wouldn’t have mattered if the keyword was in uppercase or title case. What’s important is that you spelled it right. No more no less.
