ChatGenie CEO Shares Insights on Country's Growing eCommerce Industry

August 29, 2023 5:54 PM

ChatGenie CEO Ragde Falcis talked about the budding eCommerce industry in the country during his appearance at Ground Zero, a virtual career growth conference hosted by Workbean on April 29.

Ragde was part of a fireside chat that focused on “Unboxing the True Potential of eCommerce in the Philippines.” He was joined by Jonathan Dizon, Lalamove’s Head of Sales, and Precy Servito, foodpanda’s Learning and Organizational Development Manager.

The pandemic proved to be pivotal to the growth of eCommerce, according to Ragde as it spurred the overnight digitization of businesses.

ChatGenie came into the picture during this time, about two weeks before the enforcement of lockdowns. The multi-channel commerce platform provided businesses a workaround at the peak of the COVID-19 crisis when they weren’t able to accept walk-in customers.

Ragde noted that ChatGenie’s mission evolved from enabling businesses to sell inside the world’s biggest apps to influencing their growth.

Asked about ChatGenie’s contributions to the growing eCommerce industry in the Philippines, Ragde took note of how the startup caters to different age groups and consumers by allowing business owners to set up stores in different sales channels such as Viber, Facebook Messenger, and Instagram.

As he observed, older people are more present on Viber while some prefer to use Facebook Messenger. On the other hand, fashion and travel lovers spend their time on Instagram. Ragde even hinted on ChatGenie’s future availability on TikTok in order to extend businesses' reach to the younger generation.

On the topic of security, Ragde said ChatGenie makes sure that risks are mitigated for both merchants and consumers whenever they do transactions.

The KYM process required of businesses when signing up with ChatGenie weeds out bad actors or businesses who are trying to scam consumers, Ragde explained, while the platform’s social layer design allows merchants to check the authenticity of consumer accounts.

In his closing statements, Ragde encouraged conference attendees to pursue careers in startup environments like ChatGenie where they can interact with decision makers and test their limits performing multiple roles.

May 6, 2025 3:16 PM

With today's large language models (LLMs), building a proof-of-concept (POC) for a chatbot is relatively easy, but turning that into a production-ready system is far more challenging.
